Five Days of Hope

I am writing this on Monday after England beat Mexico in the early hours of Sunday morning.  I did not mean to stay awake, but it was too exciting to fall asleep.  The roads were much emptier this morning and there were tired children and staff in schools, but it was worth it.  Enjoying this feeling of winning this match in their home country brings everyone together and is a great feeling.

Yes – we have to play Norway on Saturday, but that is 5 whole days away (by the time this is posted, the match will be tomorrow) but we have had 5 days to enjoy the moment.  We have had 5 days of enjoying this feeling and having that hope inside us.  We should be able to bottle this feeling, so we can feel this anticipation and hope when we are feeling down.

I found this quote, and I think about the conversations I have had today – I wonder how many young boys and girls playing football for their local club will go on to play for their country.  What a dream to have – and, although it will not happen for most people, it will come true for some – how amazing.

“Every World Cup play started somewhere.

A local field

A parent who drove them

A coach who believed in them

A kid who simply loved the game

Before the world ever knew their name

That’s why we watch”.
