As we are approaching the end of the school year, many teachers and TAs are beginning to feel the same thing: tired, I know I certainly am.
The final weeks of the summer term are often some of the busiest. There are reports to finish, assessments to complete, sports days to organise, transition activities to organise, school trips and classrooms to prepare for September. Meanwhile, the children are becoming increasingly excited about the holidays, and keeping routines on track can feel more challenging than ever.
At this time of year, it’s easy to focus on everything that still needs doing. The to-do list seems endless, and many school staff find themselves thinking about what they haven’t achieved rather than everything they have.
But perhaps this is the moment when we need to be kindest to ourselves.
As the school year draws to a close, take a moment to reflect on the difference you’ve made. Think about the child who grew in confidence, the pupil you supported through a difficult day, or the small breakthrough that happened because you didn’t give up. These moments may not appear on a report, but they matter the most.
As the summer holidays get closer, give yourself time to reflect on everything you’ve achieved this year. Take a breath, celebrate the small wins and remember that the same compassion you show your pupils every day is something you deserve as well.
You’ve worked hard. You’ve made a difference. Now it’s time to take a well-earned break.
