Tilda Tries Again by Tom Percival is a thoughtful and inspiring story about resilience, determination, and learning how to cope with difficult changes. The book follows a young girl named Tilda, whose life suddenly feels very different from before. At the beginning of the story, Tilda enjoys spending time with her friends, reading books, and playing happily. However, something changes in her life, and she begins to feel sad, frustrated, and unable to enjoy the things she once loved.

As Tilda struggles with these feelings, she starts to withdraw from the activities she used to enjoy. One day, she notices a ladybird lying on its back. The tiny insect repeatedly tries to turn itself over but keeps failing. Instead of giving up, the ladybird continues trying until it finally succeeds and flies away. Watching the ladybird’s determination helps Tilda realise that setbacks are a normal part of life and that it is important to keep trying, even when things seem difficult.

The ladybird becomes an important symbol in the story because it teaches Tilda that progress does not always happen immediately. Inspired by what she has seen, Tilda begins taking small steps forward. She starts trying things again and gradually regains her confidence and happiness. Through Tilda’s journey, readers learn that everyone experiences challenges, but perseverance can help them overcome those obstacles.

This book is great in delivering an important message in a simple and engaging way. My favourite part was when Tilda watched the ladybird refuse to give up, as this moment showed how even small actions can teach valuable lessons.
