The Banners Are Ready – Ben, Are You?

If you’re a regular reader of our blog, you’ll already know all about the incredible challenge my son set himself: completing a Half Ironman. For those who may have missed it, that means tackling a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike ride, and finishing with a 13.1-mile run.

After months and months of training, early mornings, sore muscles, careful nutrition, and more Lycra than any family should ever have to see, the big day has finally arrived. This Sunday, he will take on the challenge he has worked so hard for.

The banners are ready, his body has been fuelled with all the right foods, his equipment has been checked, packed, repacked, and checked again, and honestly, there isn’t a single thing he could have done better to prepare. The hard work is done – now it’s time to put all those months of dedication into action.

As a family, we’ll be there every step of the way, cheering him on from the sidelines. His friends and work colleagues, who have supported him enormously throughout his training journey, will also be there to encourage him. There will be plenty of shouting, clapping, and probably some questionable attempts at motivational speeches!

Whether he’s powering through the swim, flying along on the bike, or wondering whose bright idea it was to finish with a half marathon, he’ll know he has an army of supporters behind him.

We couldn’t be prouder of what he has achieved already. Completing the event will be amazing, but the commitment, determination, and resilience he’s shown over the past few months have been just as impressive.

Good luck, Ben – now go and do what you’ve trained so hard for. We’ll be the loud ones on the sidelines embarrassing you!
