Then Invisible String by Patrice Karst and illustrated by Joanne Lew-Vriethoff
If you have a child who is nervous about school, anxious to leave you or has suffered a bereavement, it can be hard to find a way to try to support them. We often use the story ‘The Invisible String’ by Patrice Karst as a way of explaining to the child/children that they are all connected by an ‘Invisible String’. It is the story of the String (made out of love!) that connects us all.

The story offers comfort to many of the children that we work with as it eases their separation anxiety, loneliness and loss, whilst also exploring the intangible yet unbreakable connections between us all.
As long as love is in your heart, ‘the invisible string’ will always be there. The Invisible String is a comforting story about two siblings, Liza and Jeremy who learn that everyone has an invisible string that connects them to everyone they love, anywhere, anytime. You are never alone. The people who love you here and those who have passed away are never far because if you tug on this invisible string, they can feel it in their hearts.
This is a remarkable message for children who feel lonely, scared, anxious, worried, etc. and this reassuring feeling could help a child cope with a variety of issues from everyday things and also it is perfect for: dealing with loss, moving, friendship issues, family problems, night-time fears, separating from parents, it really is a very special book.
