~ Ooze Tube ~
This month’s resource is the Ooze Tube, it is a simple but effective sensory resource that can be particularly useful for children who need support with emotional regulation, calming and refocusing. I absolutely love it; it certainly helps me regulate.
The Ooze Tube contains coloured liquid that slowly moves and bubbles from one end to the other when the tube is turned over. Watching the liquid move provides a calming visual focus and encourages children to slow down and take a moment before responding.

I have found this resource particularly useful for children who find it difficult to recognise or talk about their emotions when they are dysregulated. Rather than expecting a child to immediately explain what is wrong, the Ooze Tube can be offered as part of a calm space or regulation activity, giving them some valuable time. I have used it with several children and they, like me love it!
It can also be used alongside breathing exercises. Children can watch the liquid slowly move while taking some steady breaths, encouraging them to focus their attention on something predictable and calming.
Sometimes giving a child a few minutes to regulate before trying to discuss what has happened can make a significant difference. The Ooze Tube provides a visual focus while allowing that important time and space.
