Moving Up with Confidence

As the school year is starting to come an end, we are starting to see children begin preparing for moving into a new class. While this can be an exciting time, it can also bring feelings of uncertainty as pupils adjust to a new teacher, classroom and routines.

All children experience change differently. Some may be eager to start their next adventure, while others may feel nervous about what lies ahead. By recognising these feelings and providing reassurance, we can help children approach the transition with confidence.

Successful transitions are built on preparation and support. Opportunities to meet new teachers, visit new classrooms and discuss any questions or concerns can help children feel more comfortable and reduce anxiety. Celebrating the achievements of the current year also encourages pupils to reflect positively on their progress and look forward to new opportunities.

Positive conversations about the move and reassurance that feeling nervous is normal can make a significant difference.

Transition is an important opportunity for children to develop confidence, resilience and independence. By working together, schools and families can help every child feel excited, prepared and ready to thrive in their new class.
