Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone.  Let’s hope 2023 is a great year.

Hopefully, everyone had a lovely Christmas with friends and family …… eating and drinking too much, catching up with those you have not seen for a while, being in a state of mind where you do not know what day of the week it is and where time does not matter.  It’s that time of year when new promises are made about being healthier and keeping work – life balance in the right perspective.

That’s brilliant if that has been your Christmas but please remember others may have had a really difficult time.  For some it will be the first Christmas without a loved one who has died.  For some their loved one may be ill and unable to join in the celebrations.  For some there will be worries about not having enough money for food, heating and bills, let alone gifts.  For some they will be living in an abusive household and keeping safe over the last couple of weeks has been the priority.

As we return to school, take time to ‘check-in’ with all your children.  Listen to those who tell you about their exciting Christmas and celebrate with them but also take time to check in with those children who may need to talk and off-load but may not know how to start the conversation.  Staff working closely with the children will know them best and you will know the children that may need your time and patience to help them untangle the feelings that are confused and mixed up inside.  Taking some time at the start of the term, will help re-establish relationships and help children feel safe and secure.

Remember to ‘check-in’ with staff too.  Christmas is a wonderful time of the year but it can also be incredibly difficult.
