Recently, my mum and dad went to see Paddington the musical in London; they, along with the rest of the audience, absolutely loved the show. It made me think … what is so important about Paddington for him to have captured the hearts of people of all ages?
Paddington Bear has strong, moral values that are centred around kindness, politeness and the welcoming of strangers. The character was created by Michael Bond in books that many of us will have read as children, he was also animated and on our screens in a series in the late 1970s and again in the late 1990s. There have been two brilliant Paddington films, one in 2014 and another in 2017. Paddington had tea with the queen, and he even presented an award at the Baftafilm awards this week. The West End musical about the lovable bear Paddington is now being declared a hit by critics. The bear character stands as a symbol of tolerance and inclusivity and was inspired by stories from child evacuees during World War 2.

Paddington is kind and tolerant towards others, and I think if we can all be just that little bit kinder and more tolerant ofeach other, the world would be a much better place. Paddington has a guide to good manners that he follows, and I think it is a great code to live by, although I’m not so sure about the marmalade sandwich one!
