Challenge Yourself

My son has always been a keen sportsman, he loves running, football, swimming and skiing, he will try any sport. He has run competitively since he was 11 years old, he is now 19 and continues to run alongside all the other sports and going to the gym. Listening to everything he does exhausts me; I don’t know how he does it.

Whilst we were on holiday this year, he told me that he wants to complete an Iron Man competition, he then talked me through what exactly this means, the swim, the bike ride and then the run. I asked him why he wanted to do this, and his response was, ‘I want to challenge myself; I want to do something that is going to take me out of my comfort zone – imagine being able to say ‘I completed an Iron Man’.

This made me really think, it is good to challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone by pursuing new, difficult goals and tasks that require effort, developing resilience, and new skills. You can challenge yourself through physical fitness, by learning a new skill or hobby, or even through small daily actions like waking up earlier or performing a random act of kindness. We can all challenge ourselves no matter how small it may seem.

Anyway, since we have returned from holiday the Iron Man training has started and the challenges are setting in, I will keep you updated on how it goes and remember to have a think about how you can challenge yourself.
