This is a lovely time of year when the days get warmer, and the evenings stay light for longer (and we have had sunshine in abundance this year). In schools it is also a time when we all start to think about changes: year 6s have finished SATs and are starting to think about high school, children have half a term before they move up to their new classes and, in some cases, are mixed in with different children, adults start to wonder where they will be working and who they will be working with, and some staff are changing jobs and moving onto new chapters in their lives.
We have had a great week – we have had two full day training sessions with one group of ECTs and one group of TAs who we have been working with throughout this academic year. These teachers and TAs have started to reflect on the year that is going by so quickly and they have started to think about next year and what they will be doing in September.
We have met the first four groups of year 6s that we will be supporting with their transition to high school. The children have talked about their excitement at moving on, but they have also talked about their worries and concerns. We all find change difficult on some level, but hopefully, talking about their concerns and trying to answer their questions will help them prepare for the new adventure they have ahead of them.
With all the changes coming up, it is easy to forget everything that has been achieved this year. During the last half term of this academic year, when plans are being made for September, remember to enjoy the time left. Celebrate your successes and those of the children you have supported; think about how far you have all come (adults and children alike).

For many, it is now half term – some schools have one week off and some have two (some schools that we have been working with are not breaking up for another week). Enjoy the break, relax, have fun, and then come back ready to plan for the changes ahead.
