We wish you all a Happy New Year – we hope 2025 has started well for you all.
It is also Happy Birthday to us at Reach – we are now 2 years old.
I had no heating and no hot water in my house at the beginning of this week (long story!). It was all I could think about – it was bitterly cold and everything I touched at home was icy. All I kept thinking about was getting back into schools so I could be warm. For me this lasted for a few days, and everything is now back to normal.
Imagine being a child who has had a difficult Christmas for any number of reasons. Imagine being a child who is desperate to get back to school to feel safe, warm, and cared for. Imagine being a child who wants to be back in the routine of school, so they have a sense of purpose and security.
Welcome back your children and hear their excited stories about the holidays but also notice those who are quiet and notice those children who are displaying challenging behaviour (less difficult to do!) and think about why. What are they trying to communicate to you?
Take time to rebuild the important relationships within your classrooms – be interested in the little things the children tell you. Listen to them.
Have a great spring term.
