Starting a new job is exciting, but it can also be quite scary. This week, we held our full day training session for TAs who are new (or fairly new) to the role. It was interesting to see the range of experiences that they all come with, and it is exciting to think they will bring these experiences into our schools. We are very lucky to have them.

They were a great group and we laughed lots through the day. These TAs will be working with us all year – we have afternoon sessions booked in, and another full day of training in May. Hopefully they will all be great support for each other.
We talked about the behaviours that are seen in schools, and then looked at what might be underlying these behaviours. If we understand what is beneath the behaviours, we are then able to support the children more effectively. For example, if a child says ‘no’ to every request made by an adult, we still want him/her to change their response, but we will need to do that in a different way for each child: a child with a diagnosis of autism will need a different approach to a child who has always been given whatever he wants and has never been told no before. The key is getting to know the children well and building positive trusting relationships with them.

Sam, Alfie and Lilly came with us!
