~ Role-Play ~
Puppets are a great resource to use with the children that we work with, we use them in lots of different ways, here are just a few ways in which we use them:
- We talk about issues puppet to puppet; this eases the pressure on a child, so they feel they are not actually talking to the adult.
- We use them to model social interactions.
- We role play various social situations with the children for example, being told ‘no’ what to do when there is conflict etc.
- Puppets are great to use to address any issues, for example if a child keeps on calling out, the puppets can model what they should do instead.

I recently worked with a year 4 girl, and we did all of our work through the use of puppets. We named the puppets ‘Dolly’ and ‘Polly’ and she absolutely loved using them. She responded to them really well, Polly and Dolly really helped her express herself. Every now and then, she emails them to let them know how she is doing and, of course, they always reply to her reminding her how proud they are of her.
