When we are working in schools at the moment, we are finding there are many parents who are struggling to manage challenging behaviour from their children at home. It is important to remember that children need boundaries to help them feel safe and secure. Saying ‘no’ to children helps them to know what they can and cannot do and helps them to learn how to respond to situations in home and school life. Saying ‘no’ to children is like saying ‘I love you.’
Children need boundaries and they also need to be loved and nurtured. Explain why the rule is in place and be consistent with the rules you have.
Remember – there are a million different ways to say ‘I love you’ to your children.
