This week we both went back to see our lovely year 7 children that have transitioned to high school this academic year. It was so lovely to see them all and to hear about how well they are doing. We are so proud of them; they have all done so well. They have made new friends, formed positive relationships with staff and are understanding the rules and systems that the high school have.
We have worked with the amazing staff at the high school in developing a robust transitional package of support; it has been so good working in collaboration together to ensure that the children were given the best possible to start to their high school years. It always comes back to relationships.
When we met with the children this week it was so interesting to hear what their thoughts were with regards to how the term has been, we asked them to share their thoughts with us, here are a few examples of what they told us –
‘You taught me how to organise myself, I now know I need to pack my bag the night before.’
‘The school dinners are really good.’ (This is a very important one!)
‘I have made so many new friends and the teachers are all really nice.’
‘I love the sport here; I can go to clubs after school, and I have made it into the football team.’
The list of positives that they shared with us was a lengthy one, these are just a few. One quote that really stuck with us both was one child who said, ‘Can you tell my primary school I didn’t get kicked out, look at the date and I am still here.’ He has worked really hard to turn himself around and wanted his old school to know.
We are very proud of our year 6/7 children, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
