In our job we get to work with lots of amazing children. We are passionate about supporting all of the children that we work with; they are all so individual and unique. We work really hard to develop a positive and trusting relationship with the children that we support. The most important thing is understanding the child and their background, so we are sensitive to their needs.
Over the years (and there have been lots of years between us both), we have seen many of the children that we work with go on to be successful as they progress through school and even later in life.
I remember once being in KFC and I heard this voice shout across the restaurant ‘Mrs Dilworth’, as I turned around, I saw a boy that I had taught in the referral unit, as I went over to chat with him, I already felt instantly proud of him! He told me how he was working to save up as he wanted to go to university, he wanted to get a business degree. He looked so smart in his uniform, and he was clearly really chuffed with himself and so he should be. I think I need to go back to KFC now to see if he managed to save up enough!! (Any excuse for a quick burger!!).

I also remember working with one little girl when she was in Year 6. She had many challenges in life but, despite this, she was such a determined and confident young lady. We worked really closely together, and I supported her with her transition to High School. She was moving away from her local area, so she was going to be faced with not only a new school but establishing new friendships, that is tough for any youngster. This young lady had a challenging end to her primary years, and we knew that high school was going to present with hurdles. She did it though!! She remained in the same school from Year 7-11, she still emails me now to tell me how she is getting on. She is now at college and is thriving, that young lady is going to go far in life. Every now and again I see her out and about, we always chat, and I tell her how proud I am of her.
Some children really ‘stick with you’, 5 years ago now I worked with a little boy when he was in nursey, he was the sweetest and most adorable little boy. He moved to his primary school, and I supported the transition; he found school challenging, he was like a little whirlwind of energy, but everybody loved him (and he knew it). He gave the best cuddles and said the sweetest (and sometimes not so sweet) things to me when I used to visit him. He is now in year 4, everybody still loves him, including me and he is doing amazingly.
I could blog all day about the amazing children we work with as we have so many stories that we could share with you all, watch this space as I am sure we will share more.
